KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Following a month of travel restrictions to and from the United Kingdom (UK) owing to the severe contagion of a new strain of the novel coronavirus, the government of Nepal has decided to lift the restriction, allowing passengers coming to Nepal from the European nation.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to lift the travel restriction; however, passengers coming from the United Kingdom, Malta and Ireland must test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours before the flight.

Likewise, the returnees must fill up their information on the website of COVID-19 Crisis Management System before leaving the UK, according to a public notice issued by the Embassy of Nepal in London.

Likewise, the returnees must stay in hotel quarantine for 10 days after arriving in Nepal.  However, if passengers test negative in five days, they can return home and have to quarantine themselves at their homes for five days.

The Government of Nepal, on Dec 22, implemented travel restrictions to and from the United Kingdom (UK) owing to the severe contagion of a new strain of the novel coronavirus discovered in the European country.

In Nepal, three UK-returnees have tested positive for the UK variant of the virus as of now.
