KATHMANDU, August 20: The Madhav Kumar Nepal-led newly registered CPN-UML (Socialist) has changed its name to CPN United (Socialist) removing the UML from its name.
The splinter faction of CNP-UML had filed an application at the EC demanding registration of their party as CPN-UML (Socialist) on Wednesday. The move came shortly after President Bidya Devi Bhandari issued the ordinance that made it easy to split a political party.
Soon after the application was filed at the EC for its registration, a dispute erupted regarding the use of UML by the newly-registered party of Nepal. There is the provision that the same name, flag or symbol cannot be used by two parties at the same time in Nepal.
