KATHMANDU, Dec 29: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has stressed that there is a need for reinstating the monarchy now more than ever. Giving the example of Sikkim’s annexation, Chairman Lingden claimed that Nepal is likely to meet a similar fate as there is no monarchy now.

Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the 77th birthday of late King Birendra on Wednesday, Chairman Lingden maintained that the monarchy was necessary to save the country from other powerful nations. He mentioned that the late King Birendra was a lover of the people and a patriotic king.

Chairman Lingden also said that King Birendra is the perfect example that the king was more patriotic than the leaders of political parties. On the occasion, former minister Bipin Koirala also stressed that there was no other alternative but to move ahead by reinstating the monarchy. He also recalled the patriotic and philanthropic works of the late King Birendra Shah.
