Nepal, Ireland discuss cooperation in education sector

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Discussions have been held between Nepal and Ireland to increase cooperation and collaboration in the field of education.


The discussions were held between members of parliament and a visiting Irish delegation led by Chairperson of the Upper House of Ireland, Jerry Buttimer, who is on a five-day visit to Nepal. At a program organized by the Federal Parliament Secretariat, matters relating to the exchange of experiences on quality education, standardized examination, innovation, research, youth mobilization etc were discussed.

On the occasion, Buttimer said that the quality and standard of education can be raised and new possibilities can be explored in the field of higher education through collaboration between the community and the civil society.


Chairperson of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives, Bhanubhakta Joshi, shared about the school education bill that the Committee is considering to increase the quality of school education.


Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof Dr Bhola Thapa, Federal Parliament Secretariat Secretary Dr Rojnath Pandey  and President of Higher Institutions and Secondary Schools' Association Nepal (HISSAN) Ramesh Silwal apprised the Irish delegation of the education and academic activities in Nepal, while expressing an interest in following good international practices.
