KATHAMNDU, Aug 24: Import of digital gadgets is soaring lately in Nepal.
In the last one month- Shrawan (mid-July to mid- August)- alone, Nepal imported the smart phones worth over Rs 3.46 billion, according to the Department of Customs.
Meanwhile, the first month of the current Fiscal Year (FY) recorded the trade loss of Rs 116.15 billion. During this period, Nepal had a trade volume of Rs 140.60 billion.

Nepal was able to export goods worth Rs 12.22 billion while the import amounted to Rs 128.37 billion in the first month. However, compared to the same month of the last FY, the import has declined by 0.67 percent and the export by 9.63 percent.
In the last one month, Nepal incurred the trade loss of Rs 70.10 billion with India alone. The import of Rs 77.68 billion was made from India in the first month of the current FY, while the export amounted to Rs 7.57 billion.
Similarly, the monetary value of the import from China in the same period was Rs 24.54 million, while of export was Rs 157 million.
Moreover, Nepal has fared the trade loss with Qatar, Ukraine, Australia, Bahrain and Malaysia.
