KATHMANDU, March 17: Nepal imported colored powder worth Rs 1.96 billion during the first seven months of the current fiscal year, which was Rs 205.42 million more than the amount spent during the same period last year.
The country’s expenses on the colored powder included the import targeted for Holi festival apart from those used for the religious purpose.
According to the Department of Customs (DoC), Nepal spent the aforementioned amount to import Rs 5.31 million kilograms of the color powder during mid-July 2021 and mid-February this year. During the same period last year, Nepal imported 5.71 kg of goods worth Rs 1.76 billion.
In the past two years, there was a drastic fall in import of the colored powder targeted for the Holi festival due to the spread of coronavirus. The DoC’s record shows that the import expense on the colorful powder amounted to Rs 3.01 billion in 2019/20 and Rs 3.27 billion in 2018/19.
