Nepal defeats UAE, enters semi-finals

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Nepal has entered semi-finals by defeating United Arab Emirates (UAE) by six wickets at the Women T20 Smash Cricket Tournament underway in Thailand on Monday.


Nepal reached the 106-run target set by UAE in 19 overs, losing only four wickets.


Vice Captain Sita Rana Magar secured 37 runs, Kajal Shrestha 25 runs while Indu Barma 13 runs.

Earlier, UAE, electing to bat first after winning the toss, had notched up 105 runs in the allotted 20 overs at the cost of six wickets.


Sita Rana Magar, Sonu Khadka, Karuna Bhandari took one wicket each for Nepal.


Nepal will play fourth match with host team Thailand on Wednesday.


A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament to run till January 19. The participating squads have been divided into two groups. Nepal, China, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Thailand are in the group 'A' and Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Bhutan and Myanmar are playing from the group 'B'.
