KATHMANDU, April 1: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said Nepal could be developed as the world's sports hub.
Addressing the Policy-level Dialogue on Sports Infrastructures -2079 organized by the National Sports Council here today, PM Dahal assured that the sports sector would be prioritized for the development and promotion of the sports sector.
He admitted, "I have accorded the highest priority to the sports sector lately. I have been awarding sportspersons, going to the field to boost morale of sportspersons and participating in the sports related programmes. I am doing all these considering that Nepal could be developed as a sports hub in the world. "
Emphasizing on the need of construction of sports units and sports grounds in each village and schools across the country, the Head of the Government argued that athletes could only be bred from local level through the construction of sports related infrastructures.
"The way Nepal has been securing success in sports competition lately, Nepal could make a huge leap if the State could pay attention towards production of athletes, development of physical infrastructures and promotion of sportspersons. For all these to happen, the government's support is necessary," he argued.
Participants in the event NSC's member-secretary Tankalal Ghising, Bagmati Province's Minister for Sports Kumari Moktan, Koshi Province's Minister for Sports Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari and Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya among others called for clear policy and cooperation among the three-tier government for development of physical infrastructures in sports sector.
