Nepal clean sweeps T20I series against Malaysia

KATHMANDU, July 14: For the first time Nepali national cricket team has clean swiped the T20I bilateral series against Malaysia by 2-0 after winning the second match by 6 runs played at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.  Earlier, Nepal had defeated Malaysia by 7 wickets on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Nepal elected to bat first and set the target of 174 runs losing six wickets in allotted 20 overs for Malaysia during the match. 

Binod Bhandari smashed highest 51 runs while Sarad Vesawkar made 40 runs for the Nepali team. Skipper Paras Khadka managed to collect 23 runs from 19 balls. Likewise, RK Paudel, Karan KC and Pawan Sarraf made 19, 16 and 10 runs respectively. Gyanendra Malla managed to make only seven runs while Sompal Kami collected a single.

Malaysian bowler Fitri Sham took highest three wickets whereas Syed Aziz and S Muniandy shared one wicket each.

Chasing the target of 174 runs set by Nepali team, Malaysia managed to collect only 167 runs with a loss of seven wickets in allotted 20 overs.

While chasing the target, Syed Aziz smashed half-century for the Malaysian team. Aminuddin Ramly, Virandeep Singh and Muhamad Syahadat collected 24, 23 and 21 runs respectively.

Defying Malaysian team from meeting the target, Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane shared two wickets each. Likewise, Karan KC, Abinash Bohara and Paras Khadka shared single wicket each while sealing the victory for Nepal. 

Nepali squad is in Malaysia to play a couple of T20I matches before heading to Singapore to participate in ICC WT20 Asia Region Finals. The winner of the Asia finals will qualify for ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October.
