KATHMANDU, May 11: At Janakpur, visiting Indian Prime Minister witnessed Nepal's overwhelming welcome with three 121 kgs of garlands.
Chief Minister of Province 2, Lal Babu Raut and mayor Lal Kishor Shah, of Birgunj sub municipality jointly felicitated PM Modi. The mayor later provided a key of the sub municipality. Likewise, province government provided a photo frame of Janaki temple.
Ishwor Pokhrel, Minister of Defense said that both the countries were respectful about each other's sovereignty based on mutual interest.
During his address at Barha Bigha of Janakpur, Pokhrel stressed historical friendship between the two countries. "We are connected by geography, culture, religion and history. PM Modi's arrival at Janakpur has further deepened the friendship," he said adding that the open border with the southern neighbor had also helped to deepen relationships and connectivity.
"India has made remarkable progress. Now, Nepal is heading towards the same after ending years of political instability," he added.

However, as leaders become vocal to reset ties, social media has constantly seen a backlash, largely due to the six months unofficial blockade of 2015 in the wake of Nepal's April 25 earthquake.
