KATHMANDU, Oct 26: Eight Nepal Army personnel who participated in the Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2016 held in United Kingdom have fetched bronze medal. The event was participated by 120 army teams from 20 various countries.

According to Nepal Army's Directorate of Public Relations, team members led by Lieutenant Prajwal Khanal of the Durgabox Battallion based in Achham won the medal during one of the 'toughest and prominent' events.

The world class exercise is an 80 kilometers long range patrolling to be completed continuously within 48 hours and operated annually within the Cambrian Mountains of Mid-Wales of the UK.

During the exercise all military personnel have to carry a full personal kit and equipment throughout the patrolling amidst unforgiving terrains. Many military teams that participate in the event do not complete tasks given during the exercise.

“It is an indication to the highest standards of Nepal Army's professionalism and training tactics,” said the Brigadier General Tara Bahadur Karki. Achievements from such exercises not only bring home medals but also help contributing in boosting high morale; the spokesperson of Nepal Army said adding.

A team representing Pasupati Prasad Battalion of Nepal Army in 2014 had won a silver medal in the same exercise that deals with the leadership of the candidates, field craft and discipline, mental and physical robustness of the modern army.

Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri on his facebook page extended felicitation saying, “I am delighted to congratulate our platoon from the Durgabox Battalion who successfully achieved bronze medal in the exercise.” He adding said, “Their hard work and preparations have certainly paid off in this grueling but prestigious international military competition.

Other military teams participating in the exercise were from Latvia, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Georgia, Germany, Pakistan, Australia, Czech Republic, New Zealand, India, Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Chile, Kosovo, Brazil, and Switzerland. Gorkha battalion of the Indian Army had an outstanding performance during the military exercise.

Nepal Army had left Nepal on October 3 to participate the exercise and returned home on the 23rd.

Cambrian Patrol was set up more than 40 years ago by a group of Welsh Territorial Army soldiers who designed the training event to feature long distance march over the Cambrian Mountains.
