KATHMANDU, July 21: Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said the government would pursue economic development by adopting a policy of striking balanced relations with all countries across the globe.

Nepal lying between developed countries, China and India could not remain underdeveloped, he argued at a seminar with the theme of 'labor, society and culture in Nepal's foreign affairs and economy' organized here.

He also stressed the need for Nepal to use its 'soft power' (Buddhism, Yoga) to help maintain peace. Nepal's foreign policy is based on friendship with all, acceptance and mutual understanding, he said, adding that Nepal is an independent and non-aligned country, and would continue to be so. In another context, the foreign minister said the government has prioritized making foreign employment more secure and creating job opportunities within the country. "The government has requested for foreign investments so as to increase employment opportunities in the country."

The seminar was also attended by economists, communication experts, foreign experts, artists and journalists. ---
