KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) welcomed the ruling issued by the Supreme Court, directing the Nepal government to formulate acts related to the climate change.

Hearing the writ petition filed by advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha on October 31, a joint bench of the then Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra and Justice Tej Bahadur KC issued verdict.

“Nepal is one among those countries hit by the climate change. The climate change has been affecting directly on the country’s natural heritages, physical infrastructures, agriculture and health. Given the wide-ranging impact on various sectors, the NEFEJ urges all the groups concerned to be serious about the ruling issued by the apex court,” reads the press release issued by NEFEJ.

The development projects underway without forethought, excessive use of excavators, dozers, extraction of sand mines, deforestation and consumption of combustible fuels have further aggravated the climate change.

The climate change has directly affected the habitats of animals, human settlements and is giving rise to natural disasters.
