KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Lalitpur District Basketball Association (LDBA) is set to organize the 3x3 NeBA President Cup Basketball Tournament from Saturday. 


The two-day competition to be organized in association with Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) will be played at Dasharath stadium’s covered hall in Trupureshwar.

Speaking at a press meet in the capital on Thursday, organizer LDBA’s general secretary Saroj Bista informed that the tournament will feature 48 teams in men’s category and 12 in women’s category. He further informed that the competition will see the participation of the teams from all over the country including from Kathmandu Valley, Dharan, Biratnagar, Jhapa, Rupandehi and Kavre. 


The registration charge for the teams to participate in the tournament that will be held in league cum knockout format is Rs 3,000, informed the organizer. 


Meanwhile, NeBA’s president Tendi Sherpa said that organizing such tournament helps Nepal improve in FIBA ranking. “We improved our ranking to 133 from 146 organizing in the past years. Now hosting this tournament will take us to even better rank,” said Sherpa.   

He also said that this tournament will help select the players for international competitions including Japan 2020 Olympics where Nepal will be participating.  


The champion in the men’s category will bag a purse of Rs 40,000 while the runner-up will take home Rs 20,000. Likewise the winner and runner-up in women’s section will get Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. The most valuable player in both the categories will be awarded with Rs 7,000 each.
