KATHMANDU, Aug 1: A fire that engulfed Syuchatar Sub-station of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has caused damage of over Rs 10 million, according to the preliminary estimate.

Police said that the transformer (132/66 KV) set up at the sub-station to distribute power brought from Kulekhani Hydropower Project to Kathmandu Valley caught fire at 2.00 pm on Monday.

Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) at Metropolitan Police Range, Kalimati, Hem Kumar Thapa informed that the fire was taken under control with the efforts of Nepal Police and Judda fire engine.

The fire was caused when there was a problem in flow of power supply from Kulekhani, said electrician of Syuchatar Sub-station Sharada Devkota.
"The power supply was obstructed for around 15 minutes. Entire system was closed; it saw snag in power supply system and caught fire. The fire has incurred a big damage to the transformer", Devkota added.
