Party insiders say cabinet reshuffle is expected shortly after the task force submits its report.

Leaders close to Prime Minister Oli said almost all ministers already serving as ministers for two years will be relieved from the post and new faces will be inducted in the cabinet. Chief Ministers of a few Provinces are also likely to be changed to ensure power-sharings among top leaders in the party.

The Secretariat meeting that began at 9:30 at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar endorsed a six-member task force formed earlier by Prime Minister Oli and Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to draft an agreement to settle the intraparty differences seen in the NCP, according to NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

Prime Minister Oli and Chairman Dahal on August 14 had decided to form the panel that includes the party’s General Secretary Bishnu Poudel, Janardan Sharma, Shankar Pokharel, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Pampha Bhusal. The task force was asked to submit its proposal to settle the intra-party differences as per the broader understanding reached between Oli and Dahal.

The meeting was called on Sunday as senior leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, among others, demanded endorsing the decision to form the task force through the party’s Standing Committee meeting. They maintained that formation of such a task force through the official meeting could give legitimacy to the body.

Sources said the two leaders decided to form the task force as per their broader understanding to allow Oli to lead the government for the remaining term of the current parliament and Dahal to lead the party single-handedly until the unity general convention is held. Prime Minister Oli has also agreed to reshuffle the cabinet and assign responsibility to all leaders of the party.

The task force members have already held two meetings to draft a detailed agreement between the two leaders to ensure appropriate power sharing within the party and settle the intra-party differences seen in the party. Party insiders say cabinet reshuffle is expected shortly after the task force submits its report.

Chief Ministers of a few Provinces are also likely to be changed to ensure power-sharing deal among top leaders in the party.
