NCP names Agni Sapkota as its candidate for new speaker

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Agni Prasad Sapkota, a leader of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, has been proposed as the candidate for the new speaker of the House of Representatives.

A secretariat meeting of the NCP took a decision to this effect a while ago. Earlier today, chairpersons of the NCP KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal had agreed to field Sapkota as the party's candidate for the post of speaker.  

Sapkota was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Sindhupalchowk-1. He has been a confidant of NCP chairperson Dahal for a long time.
