KATHMANDU, May 6: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on Sunday organized a function in the capital to mark the 201st birth anniversary of German philosopher and thinker Karl Marx.

Addressing the event, former prime minister Jhalanath Khanal, who is also a senior leader of the ruling NCP, said that the ideology of Marx is highly relevant in the contemporary global politics.

Meanwhile, Khanal praised the Chinese model of economic development based on socialism.

"China has achieved sound and stable economic growth by implementing its unique type of socialism. The country has been able to lift millions of people out of poverty in the past three decades which is exemplary. We can learn from China in terms of successful practice of socialism," he claimed.

Khanal also said that socialism collapsed in the former Soviet Union due to its several internal problems.

Marx, a 19th-century German philosopher, and socialist revolutionary figure was born on May 5, 1818. He was an advocate of communism and taught about political and social dynamics in the social system.

Karl Marx's study revolved around the economic analysis of the society which means economic conditions are the major reasons that can bring change or revolution. It was his study in economics that laid the foundation for the understanding of labor and its relation to capital. His book 'Das Capital' envisages a classless society.
