NEPALGUNJ, Oct 29: Nepal Chemists and Druggists Association (NCDA) has adopted federal structure by amending its statute.

A general assembly of the association held in Nepalgunj on Saturday scrapped the zonal departments and established provincial offices. Baburam Bhattarai, acting president of the association as well as the coordinator of the statute amendment committee, confirmed that the statute was approved by the general assembly in accordance to the spirit of federalism.

Established in 1973, the association was divided to central committee, zonal departments and district sub-committees.

"As per the new statute, the central committee, provincial committees and district departments will exist from now onward," said Bhattarai.

The statute also makes it clear that there will be one central committee, seven provincial committees and 77 district departments. The general assembly also mandated the association to conclude the election for the central committee within the second week of January.

Moreover, in the next six months, chiefs of all seven provincial committees and 77 district departments will also be elected, informed Bhattarai.

More than 236 representatives from across the country had participated in the general assembly on Saturday.

Speaking at the assembly, Ram Bahadur KC, chairperson of Gandaki chapter of the association, said, "The new law which has the provision of jailing medical entrepreneurs as criminals has terrorized us."
