KATHMANDU, March 29: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has asked the government to arrest those behind the murder of two NC activists in Baglung district on Sunday.

Issuing a press statement on Monday, NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma said the brutal murder of the party’s cadres in Baglung district on Sunday was inhumane and deplorable. He also asked the government to book all those responsible for the killing.

“The inhumane incident in Baldedhuri is highly deplorable. Nepali Congress urges the government to immediately start an in-depth investigation whether the killing was a result of misunderstanding and the feat of anger that occurred in the course of playing the Holi or there is some planned conspiracy behind the incident,” said NC Spokesperson Sharma.

The dead bodies of Prakash Kunwar and Dipak Nepali were found some 400 meters down the steep hill where the two groups reportedly involved in the scuffle. Both Kunwar and Nepal are district committee members of the NC.

NC Spokesperson Sharma said that the fact that the dead bodies were found some 400 meters down the steep hill raises suspicion that they were thrown down the hill after their brutal murder. “Nepali Congress draws serious attention of the government to actively expedite police investigation and not let guilty persons flee away from prosecution,” Sharma further said.

A team of NC leaders including Baglung District Committee President Dipendra Bahadur Thapa and former district Committee President Prakash Sharma Paudel has left for the incident site to get the first-hand details about the incident, meet the family members of late Kunwar and Nepal and interact with local people about the incident.
