NC to hold poll rallies in Province 2 districts

KATHMANDU, July 21:In view of the upcoming local polls, ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to hold election rallies in the headquarters of all eight districts of Province 2.

A meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) members, parliamentarians, district presidents, regional presidents and Mahasamiti members as well as other leaders from Province 2 also decided to organize a mass election rally in Birgunj.

According to a press statement issued by the party on Friday, party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and other senior leaders will address the election rallies. The dates for the rallies however have yet to be decided, the party said.

Besides the mass rally in Birgunj and all districts headquarters, the concerned district committees will also hold local-level rallies, the party said.

The meeting that concluded Friday also decided to hold a meeting of the party’s leaders hailing from Province 2 in Janakpur. NC CWC members, former and sitting parliamentarians, district presidents, poll candidates during 2013 constituent assembly elections, regional presidents, general convention representatives, presidents of all 127 municipalities and leaders of various sister organizations hailing from Province 2 will participate in the meeting, the party said. 

The meeting has endorsed various political and development related proposals. In its political proposals, the meeting has urged all political parties including the main opposition CPN-UML to vote in favor of the constitution amendment bill to give political way out to the country.

The meeting has also urged the government to implement its previous decision to increase the number of local units in proportion to the size of population in various tarai districts. 

In the development related proposals, the meeting has demanded resumption of operation of the Birgunj Sugar Mills, and Agricultural Inputs Corporation in Birgunj. The meeting also demanded establishment of Rajarshi Janak University and provide irrigation to various Tarai-Madhes districts through the Sunkoshi-Kamala Diversion Project. 

The meeting has demanded to bring Jayanagar-Janakpur-Bijalpura-Bardibas broad gauge rail service into operation within five years. It has also demanded expediting the Postal Highway construction and various projects to increase agricultural productivity and address the unemployment problem in Province 2.
