KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Nepali Congress (NC) has failed to come up with an official opinion on the impeachment motion against suspended chief Commissioner at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lokman Singh Karki.

NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the meeting of Central Working Committee (CWC) of the party that concluded on Wednesday agreed to come up with an official opinion only before voting on the impeachment motion.

“As the issue falls under the jurisdiction of the parliament, we have decided not to come with the official view now. The impeachment recommendation committee should conduct a fair prove. NC will take a right decision before the voting process.”

During the meeting, CWC members had mainly given three different views on the impeachment issue. While a section of CWC members had maintained that it is not wise to back the impeachment motion brought by the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Center), others had suggested that the party's top leadership should be entrusted the responsibility to decide the issue.

Likewise, other CWC members had argued that although leftist parties did not consult the NC before registering the impeachment motion it was not wise to vote against Karki's impeachment motion considering his questionable background as well as professional integrity and overwhelmingly negative public opinion against him.

As many as 157 lawmakers from the main opposition CPN-UML and major ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) had registered an impeachment motion against Karki in the parliament on Wednesday. The House is scheduled to start deliberations on the motion from 3 pm today.
