KATHMANDU, Dec 10: Nepali Congress (NC)'s central executive committee here Monday approved the proposal relating to the economic policy to be presented in its upcoming Mahasamiti meeting.

The proposal presented by the Joint General-Secretary and Coordinator of the NC's Economic Policy Proposal Committee, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, on December 5 has been unanimously approved following deliberations.

Dr Mahat said that the economic policy focused on sustainable and macroeconomic growth based on high productivity.

NC, the major opposition, has adopted a policy that aims to achieve economic growth based on equality and the Party would also consider flexibility in ways and means to achieve this goal.

The economic policy approved from today's meeting would be submitted to the NC's Mahasamiti's meeting to be held at Kathmandu from coming December 14-18.

"We have accorded high priority to welfare state, proper fiscal federalism and economic governance, said Mahat, adding, "NC would formulate the policy attracting the domestic and foreign investment and adopt the industry enterprises protection policy that would discourage the export."

The Mahasamiti meeting is summoned to consider amendment in the NC's statute to keep it in tune with the changing times in the wake of implementation of federalism in the country.

The economic policy proposal committee's members comprise NP Saud, Chitralekha Yadav, Min Bishwokarma, Dhanraj Gurung, Gobinda Bhattarai, Gururaj Ghimire, Jiban Bahadur Shahi and Shiva Prasad Humagain.
