KATHMANDU, May 26: President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress, Sher Bhadur Deuba has urged the government of Nepal to ensure the safety of Journalists and media personnel working on the frontline amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion of the founding anniversary of Nepal Press Union on Tuesday, Deuba demanded that safety kits and protective gears be provided to the frontline journalists.
Accusing the Nepal government of neglecting the safety of media persons, Deuba demanded a free COVID-19 test for each journalist.
Earlier, some journalists from Birgunj and Udayapur tested positive for COVID-19.
Deuba also suggested to the government to provide relief packages and support to media houses and media persons. “They are among the worst-hit organizations by this pandemic”, he added.
Also, directing journalists and media houses to publish and disseminate truth and facts-based news without fearing anyone, Deuba urged the government to respect the press and press freedom.
