KATHMANDU, July 24: The president of the main opposition Nepali Congress(NC) has urged the government to solve the problem of floods faced by Terai districts every year during the monsoon season in a diplomatic way.
Floods inundate districts in Terai region due to the embankment built by India during the monsoon.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday, NC president Deuba called for a long-term solution to the flood-triggered problems that districts in Terai region become afflicted with every year.

On the occasion, he said that the problem cannot be solved if Nepal and India continue to engage in recriminations without making a diplomatic effort to resolve it.
“It is time to talk to India. Nepal and India engage in exchange of recriminations. How long will mutual recriminations last? Therefore, it is necessary to talk to India at a diplomatic level,” said Deuba.
NC president Deuba also accused the government of failing to provide relief materials to the victims of floods.
“People are staying in make-shift houses. They have no food. It is the responsibility of the government to provide food and clothing items to those who were displaced by floods and landslides triggered by downpours. I have not seen the government providing them with those things", added Deuba.
