KATHMANDU, Nov 21: President of main opposition Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday accused the incumbent government of trying to disrupt the existence of the free judiciary. 

The government should have performed well to protect democracy and independent judiciary, he said while speaking at a programme organized to mark the 29th establishment day of the Nepal Democratic Layers Association in the Capital. He pledged a stern protest against negative acts of the government after the meeting of NC Mahasamiti. 

On the occasion, the whip of the NC Parliamentary Party Pushpa Bhusal stressed the need for a debate on the socialism of the Communist Party of Nepal and NC's socialism. 

President of the Nepal Bar Association Sher Bahadur KC drew the attention of the government to safeguard the independent judiciary. 

He also stressed that the Constitutional Council should recommend the name for new Chief Justice before December 13 as the stint of sitting CJ is expiring on January 1. 

Other speakers including senior advocates Harihar Dahal, Prem Bahadur Khadka and Basanta Ram Bhandari, Secretary of the NBA Khamba Bahadur Khati, Chairperson of the organizing committee Yogendra Bahadur Adhikari, Vice Chairperson Suresh Poudel and President of the Nepal Lawyers Association Rudra Nepal emphasized the free judiciary.
