KATHMANDU, Oct 5: Nepali Congress has recommended Tribhuvan University Vice-chancellor Tirtha Khaniya as a candidate to contest the parliamentary election from Chitwan district. He has been recommended for a proportional representation seat from Chitwan's constituency number 1.
Along with Khaniya, Rajendra Burlakoti and Bhim Prasad Thapaliya have also been recommended for the same constituency.
VC Khaniya said that he did not ask NC to recommend his name for the elections nor has he received any official letter from the party.
When asked whether he would contest the polls if fielded as candidate, Khaniya said, "I can't say anything about it now." He added that he is currently focused only on his job at the university.
VC Khaniya had courted controversy for plagiarising an article from a foreign writer and publishing it in the periodcal of Nepal English Language Teachers' Association.
