KATHMANDU, April 6:  Nepali Congress (NC) central member Bal Krishna Khand has underscored the need to improve the party by injecting new thoughts.

Addressing the 11th central convention of Nepal Food Corporation Employees' Union here today, leader Khand noted that the first-ever movement spearheaded by trade union leaders of Birtnagar Jute Mill in 2003 BS had established the rights of workers in Nepal and the 2007 BS political change was made possible based on the workers' movement.

He noted that the NC had played lead role in concluding Maoist peace talks, managing conflict, holding Constituent Assembly elections, resolving Madhes unrest, conducting local elections and implementing the constitution.

Another central member Gururaj Ghimire said democracy would be further strengthened if the NC corrected the course deviated of late.

The convention is electing a new leadership of the Union.
