KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Lawmaker representing the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) Jitendra Narayan Dev urged the government to hold the election for the vacant post of Speaker at the earliest.
Addressing a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday, lawmaker Dev remarked that delay in the selection process has raised several political and constitutional questions. "Such an inordinate delay has also demeaned the sanctity of the legislature," insisted Dev.
He accused the top brass of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of steering the entire democratic system towards tyranny. "What is the determinant factor behind the constitutional processes including the selection of the Speaker, naming the provinces: constitutional provision or spirit of regulations or authoritarian act of NCP leadership?" wondered he.
Speaking further, Dev also drew the attention of the government to carry out all the activities in accordance with the constitution, related laws and regulations.
