NC knocks NHRC doors

KATHMANDU, May 24: Nepali Congress (NC) on Sunday drew attention of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to the murders, attacks and threats by Maoist cadres against rival parties´ cadres across the country.



A delegation led by NC leader Gopal Man Shrestha apprised NHRC of the Maoist threats against rival party cadres to leave villages.



Maoist cadres recently killed NC cadre Uma Kant Hamal in Jumla. Likewise, they attacked senior UML leaders in Ramechhap.



NHRC chairman Kedar Prasad Giri assured the delegation that they would write to the government body concerned to take action against those involved in the killing and other illegal activities. Giri told the NC delegates that separate probe teams from Jumla and NHRC regional office in Nepalgunj have started investigation into Hamal´s murder.
