BUTWAL, Oct 6: The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has issued a whip to its provincial lawmakers to vote against the proposal to name Province 5 as Lumbini and fix Deukhuri as its capital.
A meeting of the Province 5 Assembly is taking place this afternoon to decide the name and capital of Province 5 through a parliamentary vote. Therefore, Nepali Congress issued the whip to its lawmakers to vote against the proposal which was earlier tabled by Province 5 government.
NC provincial leader Birendra Kumar Kanaudiya told Republica that his party will vote against the proposal which is currently under discussion in the provincial assembly, though “the party is not against the proposed name of the province.”

However, some of the provincial assembly members including Deepak Giri said that they will vote in favor of the proposal.
The ruling Nepal Communist Party has supported the proposal tabled by the province government.
Earlier on Monday, Internal Affairs and Law Minister of Province 5, Kul Prasad KC had tabled the proposal to name Province 5 as Lumbini and make Deukhuri of Dang its capital.
There have been massive protests in Butwal and its surrounding areas against the proposal.
