KATHMANDU, Sept. 23: The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding its local-level conventions across the country today as it moves ahead with the organizational restructuring process under its 15th General Convention.
The conventions are being held to build the party’s organizational structures at the local level. The NC Central Election Committee said leadership selection has already been completed in an enthusiastic and peaceful manner in wards across the country, except for a few isolated locations.

Conventions were held in all wards of flood- and landslide-affected Nuwakot and Dhading districts on Tuesday. Similarly, the Election Committee said conventions were successfully completed in some wards of Siraha, Saptari, Sarlahi and Parsa districts in Madhesh Province.
In Rasuwa, which suffered significant loss of life and property due to floods and landslides, the convention will be held a few days later in view of the special circumstances, said Raju Katuwal, member-secretary of the Election Committee.
Under the new statute and election directives, the local-level conventions will elect five office-bearers in each local unit: a president, two vice presidents, including one woman, a secretary and a joint secretary. The president will nominate the treasurer from among the elected members of the local committee.
