KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to hold the 14th general convention of the party from August 23.
The party decided to conclude the general convention from August 23 to August 26 as per the understanding reached between the party’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba and rival faction leader Ram Chandra Paudel. The proposal reached between the two senior leaders to hold the general convention will be put forth in the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which has begun nearly three hours after the scheduled time.

Party leaders said the CWC meeting is likely to endorse the agreement reached at the level of two top leaders in the party.
President Deuba had called the party’s CWC meeting for 2 pm Wednesday. But the meeting was delayed after the Paudel faction in the party insisted that President Deuba first agreed on the dates for holding the party’s general convention.
Paudel had called a meeting of CWC members close to him at 11 am to forge their strategy to exert pressure on Deuba to agree on the dates for holding the party’s general convention. Deuba and Paudel had later held a meeting on the dates of the party’s general convention.
The NC had extended the term of its existing officer bearers for one year after the general convention could not be held within the stipulated dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extended date for holding the general convention is expiring on March 2.
