KATHMANDU, March 24: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has called a meeting of its Central Working Committee on April 2.

NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma said the meeting will mainly deal with the preparations for the party’s 14th general convention scheduled for August 23 this year. The meeting is also expected to dwell on the country’s current political situation.

The NC should have held its general convention last year itself. But since the general convention could not be held last year due to COVID-19 and other reasons, the party decided to extend the terms of the current office bearers for one year as per the provision made in the party’s statute. The party had earlier decided to defer the general convention for another six months to hold this in August.

Although the date of the general convention is fast approaching, the NC is yet to conclude the distribution of the party’s active membership and renew the membership distributed earlier. Although it was planned to update the party’s active members by March 23, the details of the party’s active members are yet to arrive at the party’s headquarters from at least 12 districts.
