KATHMANDU, Dec 11: The nomination process for the election of a new central committee of Nepali Congress (NC) under its 14th General Convention has kicked off.
According to the central election committee of NC, the distribution of the forms for the registration of candidacies has started at 10AM. The election process is taking place at Bhrikutimandap and the National Assembly building in the capital.

So far, only the candidates for the party’s central members have collected the registration forms. NC’s Election Committee Coordinator Gopal Krishna Ghimire said that all preparations have been completed under the election program. He expressed his belief that all the processes of elections will conclude within the stipulated time. The deadline for the registration has been fixed till 5PM today, according to Ghimire. The final list of the candidates will be made public on Sunday after addressing complaints, if any, against the candidates. Provisions have been made in 30 locations for the nomination of the candidates.
Following the end of the polls, the vote count for the post of party’s presidency will be held at the National Assembly building. According to the party’s statute, the elections will be held again if the votes cast in the first round do not reach 51 percent. The vote counts for other posts of the party will be held at the party’s central office in Sanepa, according to Ghimire. There are as many as 29 ballot papers from various clusters.
According to NC, the voting will start at 8AM on December 13 after addressing the protest and claims. There are as many as 4,746 delegates present at the NC’s 14the General Convention. The party will elect a Central Committee along with office-bearers. Elections will be held for one president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries and eight joint general secretaries in the office bearers positions.
