KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Ministry of Education, Science and Technology organized a program to mark the National Yoga Day in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Addressing the program, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradip Gyawali said that Yoga Education has been an integral part of human civilization, tradition, and culture.

He said that the tradition of yoga has been existing since the time immemorial. "The tradition of yoga is older than modern science and technology," he said adding, "Yoga is very much essential for a healthy lifestyle. It should be included in school curriculum", he said.

The day was observed with the slogan "National Unity: Relevance of Yoga".

Similarly, Minister for Health and Population Bhanubakta Dhakal opined that the practice of yoga brings positive thinking to human life.  "Every day, on an average 8 to 16 people commit suicide in the world. I believe that the death number can be reduced by taking part in yoga practices so as to bring a positive thinking to our life", he added.

Likewise, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giri Raj Mani Pokrel suggested one and all not to understand yoga just as a therapy. "Such programs are not enough to make people aware of yoga. Yoga is not just about therapy, it is also a way of life," he said.

"Organizing a program to mark National Yoga Day is not enough to make people aware of yoga and its benefits," he said. He also informed that Nepal Government is planning to include Yoga and Natural Treatment in the school curriculum. "We are about to publish yoga practice books within a week," he added.

Also, Yog Guru Swami Anand Arun stressed the need to institutionalize Yoga in Nepal which will not only flourish Yoga Education but also attract thousands of foreign tourists.
