KATHMANDU, Jan 31:  National champion Ratnajit Tamang has advanced into the men's singles semifinals of the ongoing 13th Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament beating Suman Limbu of host Armed Police Force (APF) in the last eight clash on Tuesday.

 

The army shuttler overcame the challenge of Suman 21-9, 21-16 in the quarterfinals played at APF's court, Halchowk, Kathmandu. Similarly, Nepal Police Club's Gautam Kathayat and Tribhuvan Army Club's Nabin Shrestha also confirmed their spots in the last four. Gautam defeated his departmental colleague Dipak Bohara 21-8, 21-17 while Nabin overcame APF's Sunil Joshi 21-18, 21-14.   


In the women's singles event, Shichya Shrestha of APF defeated Shova Gauchan of the same team 21-10, 21-18 to reach the semifinals. In the same event, Army's Anu Maya Rai and Nangsal Devi Tamang also made it to the semifinals as they defeated their departmental colleagues Sunaina Mukhiya and Jesika Gurung 15-21, 21-18, 21-17 and 21-13, 21-19, 21-19 respectively.

Megha Chand of the host team became the fourth player to advance into the semifinals as she registered 21-23, 21-20, 21-19 to win over Amita Giri of Army.


In the meantime, the men's doubles event saw Army duo Ratnajit and Nabin Shrestha advanced into the last eight beating APF's pair of Sunil Joshi and Ramesh Sherpa. Similarly, Police's pair comprising Gaurabh Dahal and Anish Shrestha, APF's pair of Indra Bahadur Mahat and Bimal Shrestha also booked their places in the quarterfinals.


Gaurab and Anish defeated the pair of Man Bahadur Budhathoki and Rudra Thing of APF, Indra and Bimal overcame Kathmandu' pair of Narayan Gautam and Abhisek Gurung. In the same event, Army's pair Suroj Maharjan and Ram Rai also secured their spot in the last eight beating the Police duo Dipak Bohara and Gautam Kathayat.
