Nary to lead women's U-19 cricket team

KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Sunday announced the women´s squad for the ACC U-19 Women´s Championship 2010.



CAN, establishing a new tradition on Sunday, organized a press conference and made public the squad. [break]



Nary Thapa has been named captain of the team while Rubina Chhetri will be her assistant for the event to be held in Singapore from October 4 to 12.



Other members in the team are Mamta Thapa, Sarita Magar, Sita Rana Magar, Sonu Khadka, Shraddha Aryal, Arati Bidari, Manisha Rawal, Indu Verma, Trishna Singh, Anjali Chand, Nima Tamang and Gita Chudal.



Jyoti Pandey, Kritu Dahal, Kavita Gautam and Samana Pun Magar are named as alternative players. Samsung Jang Thapa is the coach of the team.



Captain Thapa, Chhetri, Rana Magar and Sarita Magar are also in the women´s team selected for the upcoming 16th Asian Games, Guangzhou.







"We have experienced and young players in the team and I expect to win the tournament," said chief selector Bijaya Sharma. CAN President Binaya Raj Pandey informed that the tournament will be played on astro-turf as Singapore could not manage ground right after the completion of the Youth Olympic Games.



Along with defending champions Nepal, Hong Kong, Bhutan, Kuwait, China, Malaysia, Qatar, Oman, Singapore, Thailand and the UAE will compete for the title.



Nepal will play Hong Kong on October 4, Kuwait on October 5, Singapore on October 7 and Qatar on October 8 in the league round.
