KALIKOT, Feb 8: The Nagma-Gamgadhi route along the Karnali Highway will be upgraded. The 93-kilometre route serves as an approach road to Nepal's major touristic destination Rara Lake.
It has been decided to complete the blacktopping of the 6.5 kilometres section from Kanaka Sundari to Rokayabada along the 93-km road within the current fiscal.
According to the Information Officer at the Road Division Office, Jumla, Chitra Chaulagain, work to construct culverts, cemented structures and walls from Hatsinja Guthijyula to Malikabota has finished.

In the first-phase, the 6.5 kilometres road will be blacktopped and construction will begin from mid-February.
Thodung Wachan JV Company has been awarded the contract to undertake the upgrading work and the deadline to complete the project is until mid-July. The project is estimated to cost Rs 400 million.

It is said potential tourist arrivals to the Rara Lake have remained unmet due to the existing poor condition of the roadway.
The blacktopping of the Nagma-Gamgadhi gravel road is expected to encourage tourist arrival to the Rara Lake.
