On April 22, 2013 the Kailali District Court sentenced three people including MP Chaudhary to six-month prison term. The court had also ordered them to pay Rs Rs 818,423 as compensation to the victims.
But the local police did not take any initiative to arrest the three people and provide them with compensation, MP Chaudhary and two others are in the court’s absconding list. Chaudhary had contested the election for the post of Mayor of Lamki Chuha municipality with Mahadev Bajgain, who was the operator of the tractor that was set on fire back in 2074 BS.
MP Chaudhary said that he was surprised to see the police action years after he was elected as a parliamentarian. On August 18, 2010, Bajgain had filed a case against Pasuram Chaudhary and Bir Bahadur Chaudhary, along with MP Chaudhary at the Kailali District Court on August 19, 2009, for torching his tractor (LU 2 TA 211).
In that case, the single bench of District Court Judge Bishnu Subedi, on August 25, 2013, ordered the three to be imprisoned for six months each and to pay compensation and fine. Although the court decided and sent a letter to the police at that time, they were not arrested because the police did not show interest.
According to the spokesperson of Nepal Police, DIG Posraj Pokharel, MP Arun Kumar Chaudhary is being taken to the Kailali District Court from Nepalgunj today.
