In his farewell speech just three days ahead of formal retirement, CoAS Rana recalled the dark and bright sides of his three-year term and extended vote of thanks to his subordinates for his successful tenure."Although I don't believe in fatalism, I feel lucky enough to command the force successfully amidst some challenges," said the outgoing chief Rana. He lauded the role of Nepal Army during the political transition, took pride in the integration of former Maoist combatants into the Nepal Army and security arrangements during the second Constituent Assembly elections.
Summing up his three-year term, outgoing CoAS Rana highlighted his achievements and expressed satisfaction over the history, experience and professionalism of the NA and reiterated the army's apolitical stand and acceptance of the political changes. He also lauded the NA's successful role in the history of Nepal's peace process, commitment to the national interests and accountability.
"I had to fulfill my own roadmap related to professionalism development, operational preparation for restructuring the Nepal Army among others. I was successful to address my own commitment to some extent," he said.
Meanwhile, Acting CoAS Lieutenant General Rajendra Chhetri also lauded the achievements gained in enhancing military diplomacy, professional and systematic trainings, skill development schemes, organizational reforms, comprehensive welfare packages, among others during Rana's term and assured to continue the trend.
Lt Gen Chhetri will take over the command of the national army from Sept 10 after the outgoing CoAS Rana retires the same day.
President Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to confer the official insignia of CoAS on Chhetri Thursday.
