KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Chief Minister of India’s Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath said on Monday said that his upcoming visit to Janakpur will be a cultural one.

“My upcoming visit to Janakpur will be a cultural one in which I will act to strengthen the bond between the two neighboring countries,” Yogi told a visiting Nepali delegation, according to Indian media reports. Yogi is scheduled to visit Janakpur on December 12 to participate the Vivaha Panchami ceremony on the premises of the Janaki Temple.

He also informed the Nepalese delegation that work on the four-landing of the Ram-Janaki road has begun, the Indo-Asian News Service reported.

Yogi’s remark comes after a section of politicians questioned his upcoming visit to Janakpur due to his controversial background.

The itinerary of Yogi Adityanath was changed last week amid a section of politicians questioning his visit over his controversial background.

The Indian side had made it clear that Adityanath will only participate in the Vivaha Panchami function in Janakpur, but not inaugurate the Jayanagar-Janakpur-Kurtha railway as reported earlier.

Leaders mainly those from the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, had demanded that the railway project should be inaugurated at the level of central governments of both the sides.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh and Nepal governments were agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to declare Ayodhya and Janakpur as twin cities.

An understanding to this effect was arrived at a meeting between the Nepali delegation and Yogi Adityanath on Sunday, the IANS report further said.
