SARLAHI, July 25: Chief Administrative Officer of Haripurwa Municipality in Sarlahi district has been accused of physically assaulting a people's representative.

Haripurwa Municipality-3 ward chair Dharma Raj Singh was allegedly beaten up by the municipality’s chief administrative officer Sakaldev Raya on Thursday evening.

Police have arrested Raya, his elder brother Lalbabu Raya and a local Shailendra Yadav on the charge of being involved in the beating, said District Police Office Sarlahi's chief, Superintendent of Police Bishwamani Pokhrel.

The ward chair has received injuries on several parts of his body and on Friday was taken to the Dhapakhel-based Sumeru Hospital in Lalitpur after primary treatment at the District Hospital Malangawa, according to family sources.

Lalbabu and Shailendra were detained on Thursday itself and the chief administration officer on Friday for interrogation.

It is learnt that the relations between the two: Mahato and Raya had turned sour for the past few days as a group of youths close to Raya teased a woman who is a close relative of ward chair Mahato during a local religious festival. The beating is believed to be a consequence of the same event, according to locals.

The family has filed an FIR for a murder attempt against four people including Yadav at the District Police Office, Sarlahi.
