MPs raise problems of farmers, road development in ‘Zero Hour’ of HoR meeting

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: In the ‘zero hour’ of the meeting of the House of Representatives today, the parliamentarians drew the attention of the government through the speaker to the issues of lack of fertilizers, difficulty in getting seeds by farmers, and road construction and open border with India.

Member of parliament (MP) Dev Prasad Timilsina repeatedly drew the government’s attention to the fact that the farmers' problems were not heard. He said that the government did not listen to the farmers' pain.

MP Basudev Ghimire said that for the modernization of agriculture, management of manure should be done. He said that factories should be built in the country to produce fertilizers and seeds.

MP Tara Lama Tamang drew the government’s attention to prevent border irregularities and violence. She drew the government’s attention to upgrading and making the now-closed Chhoti Customs office at Belauri in Kanchanpur operational. She also demanded border violence and irregularity be brought to an end.

Teju Lal Chaudhary drew the attention of the government saying that efforts were being made to suppress the Tharu movement and the sentiments of the Tharu community.

MP Damodar Paudel said that the report on the demarcation of Phewa Lake should be implemented. MP Paudel drew the government’s attention to the availability of international flights and routes at the Pokhara Regional International Airport. He also demanded a dialysis service center in Pokhara to make the dialysis service available for kidney patients in the valley.

MP Deepa Sharma said that the construction of the industrial area under-construction in Banke should be speeded up.

MP Durga Rai said that the under-construction hydropower project in Sadanand Municipality of Bhojpur district has done injustice to the locals. He drew the government’s attention to the fact that the settlement itself is at risk when tunnels are dug randomly.

MP Dhawal Shumsher Rana drew the government’s attention to arrange flights from Nepalgunj to different regions of India. MP Narayani Sharma said that 109 people died when the road construction in Dang district went awry. He drew attention to building roads.

Pushpa Bahadur Shah said that immediate relief and management should be given to those who lost their lives due to floods and the homeless in Acham district. He drew the government’s attention to the urgent need to take concrete policies for the residents of this area and rescue them.

MP Prakash Jwala drew the government’s attention to immediate maintenance and upgrading of Rapti Lokmarga in Salyan, Dang and Rukum districts. MP Prakashman Singh said that Melamchi water supply, which was started after two decades in Kathmandu, should be available round the year. He drew the government’s attention to the fact that the employees of the Melamchi Water Project have not received their salaries since July.

MP Pradeep Paudel drew the government’s attention to the immediate amendment to the bill made for money laundering. MP Badri Prasad Pandey said that infrastructure construction should be accelerated. MP Prem Bahadur Maharjan drew the government’s attention to the upgrading of various road roundabouts and opening of corridors in Lalitpur district.

MP Balram Adhikari drew the government's attention to the lack of irrigation and fertilizers. He demanded border management by saying that stray horses entering through the open border of India have increased accidents.

MP Dil Prasad Badu said that the Nepal-India-China Darchula road project has not progressed as expected. He pointed out that the construction of the road, which has been stopped for a month, should be completed in four years. MP Devi Prakash Bhattachan drew the government’s attention to the possibility of a constitutional crisis.
