KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Shram Sanskriti Party lawmaker Aren Rai has questioned why youths who participated in the Gen Z movement and were arrested over violence, arson and vandalism remain in jail while some participants who allegedly encouraged the protests have become MPs and ministers.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Rai urged the government to clarify whether the Gen Z movement was a movement for political change or a criminal incident.

“Those who participated in the same Gen Z movement and said ‘burn, burn, hit’ became MPs and ministers, while those who participated in the same movement have to remain in jail. What is the problem?” he asked.
Rai called for a clear government position on the youths in jail, the National Human Rights Commission’s report and the damage caused during the protests.
He also urged the government to address the demands of the Gen Z movement in a new way, saying it could no longer afford to make false promises.
