KATHMANDU, Aug 22: The country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds. As the monsoon trough is around its average position, the weather is generally cloudy across the country.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and a few places in Lumbini Province.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), the weather will generally remain cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely in some hilly and mountainous areas.

Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely in the Terai and Madhesh areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as some Terai areas of Koshi and Lumbini provinces.
Heavy rain is likely in one or two hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
Tonight, the weather will generally remain cloudy across the country. Moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely in some mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as snowy areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Similarly, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in many hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and some hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Moderate rainfall is also likely in the Terai areas of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as some parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The MFD said heavy rainfall could occur in a few hilly and Terai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces and hilly areas of Gandaki Province.
Heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion, potentially affecting daily life as well as agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, roads and air transport in the affected areas.
The MFD has urged people to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather information.
