KATHMANDU, May 15: The Nepali Congress (NC), Member of Parliament (MP), Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has been automatically suspended from his position as a member of the House of Representatives following the filing of a corruption case against him.
Basnet was elected from Sindhupalchok Constituency No 2 in the 2079 (2022) parliamentary elections.

On Thursday, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a case against Basnet at the Special Court in Kathmandu, accusing him of corruption during the procurement of TERAMOCS technology for the Nepal Telecommunications Authority when he served as the Minister for Communications and Information Technology.
Under Section 17 of the CIAA Act, 2048, Basnet has been automatically suspended from his position as a MP. It is stated in the law that if a corruption case is filed against a person holding a public office, they will be considered automatically suspended from their position.
The CIAA has filed corruption cases against 16 individuals, including MP Basnet.
