Minister Ale bars CEO Bolsover of  SHL Management Pvt Ltd from leaving Nepal

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mike Bolsover of SHL Management Pvt Ltd has been barred from leaving the country under the direction of Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale. 

Bolsover, who has yet to pay Rs 130 million in taxes for running two casinos, was barred from boarding his flight to South America last night at 10PM under the direction of Minister Ale and Secretary Maheshwar Neupane of the ministry.

CEO Bolsover operates two casinos inside the country with the investment from OCP Asia but has not paid the taxes for the same to the Government of Nepal. Of them, one is located at the Shangrila Hotel in Lazimpat and the other at Tiger Palace in Bhairahawa. Each of these two casinos owes as much as Rs 60.5 million to the government. 

A total of Rs 400 million in taxes has already been collected from eight casinos currently in operation following the direction from Minister Ale. However, SHL Management Pvt Ltd has not paid its taxes, resulting in CEO Bolsover being barred from leaving the country. 

Meanwhile, SHL Management is also accused of operating a five-star hotel in around 0.112 hectares of government land illegally in Tilottama Municipality-6 in Bhairahawa. In the past, the Supreme Court had ordered the company not to do any kind of business in the country.
