KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Surendra Raj Acharya, has stressed the need of digitizing the disabled identity cards. 


Speaking at a meeting of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly on Friday, Minister Acharya pointed out the need for distributing identity cards to all disabled people in a justifiable manner. 


"There has been a discrimination in the distribution of disabled identity cards. So it is necessary to digitize the identity cards to distribute them in a justifiable manner," said Minister Acharya.

The ministry has been holding discussions on giving the responsibility of distributing prosthetic items to all three tiers of government, mentioned Minister Acharya, adding collaboration and cooperation with inter-ministries is underway for the implementation of resolution proposals approved by the National Assembly.   


Committee Chairperson Prakash Pantha underscored the need for effective implementation of the laws in the context that disabled identity cards were being misused. 


Committee members Bamdev Gautam, Narayan Prasad Dahal, Kamala Devi Panta, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi also expressed their views.
