KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Four school friends--Gaurav Tiwari, Saurav Tiwari, Dinesh Bogati and Ivan Karki--came together to supply medical kits as there were shortages of the products starting April. A looming pandemic threatened to upend everything.  

When the government imposed lockdown on March 24 following the spread of coronavirus, the domestic market saw an abrupt shortage of safety kits like masks, sanitizers and gloves, among others. That was when the four friends started KS International. They started selling safety medical kits under the brand ‘MHI Safety First.’

“We teamed up to ease consumers’ needs as there were risks of substandard products and black-marketing,” recalled Gaurav Tiwari, director of KS International. “Though we were from different backgrounds, we started delivering medical products of high brand value, ensuring quality products.”

Gaurav and his team have increased the product lines to 30 variants as the coronavirus cases escalate. These include disposable masks, sanitizers, portable nebulizers, pulse oximeters, examination gloves, digital blood pressure machine, hansaplast in regular and cartoon designs, weight scale, sanitizer dispenser, earbuds, electric hot water bag and KN95 mask. They import these products from China, Malaysia and India.

To maintain an effective distribution system, the company has developed a network of 200 people to avail the products. Gaurav said they have reached more than 100,000 people.

Apart from supplying the medical products, the company is now exploring opening 30 outlets across the country.
